The "Hello World" of OpenStack

In this remote learning course, we will introduce the common infrastructure building blocks of OpenStack, including Compute (Nova), Networking (Neutron), and Storage (Cinder/Swift). We begin by teaching the concepts of how to build an instance. Next, we jump into Networking and its various components, as it relates to connectivity to and from Instances. We will then explore the types of storage available within OpenStack. The course will conclude with a live demonstration of all the components reviewed, working together as the “Hello World” of OpenStack.

OpenStack Essentials

In support of OpenStack’s rapid growth, the Rackspace Training organization developed an “OpenStack Fundamentals” course designed to accelerate an individual’s understanding of the OpenStack environment. During this four-day course, students will learn about the history of OpenStack, the components of OpenStack and how to build and maintain an OpenStack environment. The activities used to teach students during this course include an informational lecture, the manual installation and hands-on administration of core OpenStack components and multiple activity labs.

OpenStack Compute Essentials

This course is a two-day intro class covering the core OpenStack compute projects including Neutron, Nova, Glance, Keystone and Horizon. OpenStack Networking - Neutron

Students will learn how to use an API to build and configure networking infrastructure using Neutron. Neutron is an OpenStack project that was launched with the Folsom release. This new service provides a virtual “Networking as a Service” between interface devices and allows users to use an API to build and configure networking infrastructure. By becoming proficient with Neutron, users can create load balancers and firewalls using network virtualization throughout their environment.
